As Senior Concept 2D Artist you will use your expertise in art principles and software, being responsible for high-quality original artwork that often displays innovative solutions when answering briefs. You will be able to take high-level creative direction and estimate, schedule and execute relevant level-of-detail artwork, depending on the stage of the creative process. You will be able to mentor more junior artists and work collaboratively across the team to ensure the best possible ideas are professionally presented and realised in-game.

Role Requirements

A Senior Artist has an arsenal of direct experience they can call upon. They are highly professional and proven experts in their field.

  • They have a comprehensive portfolio showing wonderful examples of their craft
  • Highly capable of creating artwork in a range of styles  
  • Expert understanding of computer-based illustration applications
  • Supports Principals and Leads with the creation of style guides and visual targets  
  • Able to work both quickly or in a more measured way  
  • Proactive - takes on responsibility in pushing the quality of their craft and in self-development  
  • Capable of exploring and defining styles for new projects
  • Evaluates briefs quickly
  • Presents a series of well thought through options through proper research, reference gathering, visual investigations and development
  • Creates original high-quality visual development, production art and final key art
  • Supports both 2D & 3D pipelines, plus outsource briefs
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of lighting
  • Able to gather materials for mood boards

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of the principles of photography/film
  • Some knowledge of post-processing techniques and lens effects
  • Able to plan and direct reference shoots & location scouting 2

Soft Skills


  • Can work independently and without close supervision, but checks-in regularly
  • Able to assist in supervising and mentoring more junior artists
  • Proven team maturity - able to ‘hold the fort’ if needed

  • Experience in new game development a plus

  • Senior Concept Artist involvement ensures presentations & pitches are visually impressive

  • Demonstrates awareness of organisational structure and constraints and their position within it - involves appropriate key stakeholders
  • Places team goals ahead of individual priorities
  • Helps mentor more junior team members
