Game Designer

Who are we?

Fortitude is a new studio based in Guildford, UK, dedicated to building innovative and creative games. By spring-boarding from parent company Mediatonic’s wealth of experience and connections, we’re growing quickly and pouring heart and soul into developing exciting titles that provide players with surprising, polished and high-quality experiences that are able to cut through a crowded marketplace.

We are looking to hire highly-motivated and talented individuals with the passion and skills to deliver premium-quality games from day one, while growing as part of a small team working with original properties and highly-acclaimed IPs to create a world-class games studio.

We are small but so far have a 100% success rate of hiring extremely talented and likeable staff, and we very much wish to keep the perfect record running.

Key Responsibilities

As game designer at Fortitude you will be responsible for helping turn concepts into tangible systems and mechanics, testing and refining new ideas and ensuring that our games and updates are the best they can be.

This role requires a highly creative mindset coupled with a laser-focus on detail and the ability to document and communicate your designs clearly.

In addition to these core competencies, you:

  • Are able to create and maintain game design documentation for assigned projects
  • Excel at taking basic concepts or briefs and creating clear, concise specifications that can be easily understood by team members from all disciplines
  • Understand how various components of a game combine to create the overall experience, and how to modify and improve those components while managing the impact on the wider game
  • Continuously look for ways to improve or expand on the game experience outside your direct brief
  • Are comfortable learning and using  custom level editing tools and basic scripting
  • Troubleshoot and help solve design challenges that arise during development
  • Constantly review and evaluate implemented features
  • Draw inspiration and best practices from a wide range of games across multiple platforms

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced game designer who can jump in and immediately get their hands dirty. Ideally, you:

  • Have 3+ years game design experience in a studio environment
  • Are proficient in Word, Powerpoint and Excel
  • Understand game structure and systems
  • Have a deep knowledge of past and present games across all genres
  • Communicate your ideas clearly, concisely and efficiently
  • Adapt quickly to pick-up new skills and ways of working
  • Work closely with others
  • Produce clear and workable documentation

It is important to note that this role will span both premium and free to play titles. It is important that you understand the differences between these two, enjoy both — and are comfortable working in either realm.

Application

In addition to a short, sharp CV we would like to hear a little extra from you.

Please include with your application no more than one A4 page detailing:
