Lead Artist

Mediatonic are looking for a Game-Art Lead to manage the Art team on one of our high-performing mobile titles.

As the ideal candidate, you need to show you can talk-the-talk with external partners and walk-the-walk when it comes to delivery. This title has a largely UI focus so your attention here must be sharp, ensuring you deliver captivating, charming experiences. You need to be a brilliant organiser, and will work closely with our Production team to make sure art is delivered reliably and to the highest of standards. You need to be able to understand the team's working pipelines and constraints so you can creatively engage with the Product teams. You must be able to work with Production to plan sprints and identify & mitigate risks, as well as actively engaging with the Design team to ensure artwork meets the requirements of the design and UX. Most importantly, you need to inspire the confidence of your hard-working and incredibly talented art team, taking responsibility for developing and maintaining the game's artistic style and visual quality within the most positive of working environments. The role is weighted towards management and team interaction, so would suit somebody who is especially interested in the organisational & 'directing' side of Art management, with a smaller percentage dedicated to hands-on work.

A Game Art Lead is a highly creative thinker who establishes and maintains strong artistic direction which best fits the Game Design and business ambitions. They lead a game art team in delivering the game vision as directed in collaboration with the Studio Art Director. A talented an analytical artist, plus an experienced and respected leader.


  • A comprehensive portfolio showing wonderful examples of your craft in different styles
  • Experience in dealing with external publishers
  • Experience leading art on a project 
  • Experience in estimating/scheduling (ideally within an agile environment)
  • Excellent organisational mind
  • Skilled in one or more of the craft areas - knowledgeable in all 
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive demeanour
  • Ability to understand business and product needs and ability to decipher and adhere to existing IP styles
  • Excellent sensitivity and understanding of game narrative
  • Able to ideate and empathise with player personas
  • Able to propose art styles that suit the game narrative and design, stretch the technology and appeal to the target audience 
  • Experience on multiple games and ability to work across varied art styles
  • Keeps up to date with visual trends in entertainment - able to reference popular and obscure cultural IP...not just games 

Desirable skills / experience:

  • Industry experience at multiple game/entertainment studios 
  • Experience building teams an advantage
  • Experience with outsourced art and external contract support 
  • Experience on a successful free-to-play mobile game
